 Historical Series

The historical Series of the University were made under the direction of intellectuals from Calabria, professors and famous people who have contributed to the foundation and to the prestige of this University.

Reale, Giuseppe – Calabrian people over time

Mr Giuseppe Reale (Maratea, June 12th, 1918 - Reggio Calabria, 16th  May 2010) was an Italian politician. He was an intellectual who worked in politics, he was a member  of the Christian Democrats for several years. Engaged in the Catholic world, next to bishop Ferro , he was elected deputy in the ranks of the Christian Democrats in 1958 and was re-elected to the VI legislature. He took on the creation of the Academy of Fine Arts, for the transformation and upgrading of the airport Reggio (firstly only military and later civil), for this University. We remember his hunger strike to protest on the occasion of Catanzaro appointed as the administrative centre. He was mayor of Reggio Calabria for only six months in 1993 , in the turbulent political period that followed the arrest and revelations of Agatino Licandro. Europeist convinced, he published the Parallel 38,a magazine of the publishing house of the same name for the types of Graphic Workshop of Villa San Giovanni. He was the founder, Chancellor and honorary President of the University for Foreigners "Dante Alighieri" of Reggio Calabria. He was a co- founder of the section Reggio Calabria of the  Centrum Latinitatis Europae. Giuseppe Reale died on May 16th , 2010 at the age of 92 years.
