 1 Where is the university for foreigners of Reggio Calabria?
The University for Foreigners “Dante Alighieri” of Reggio Calabria is located in the city centre at Via del Torrione, 95, behind the Municipal Theatre “Francesco Cilea”.

  2 What are the ordinary italian language courses?

The University for Foreigners offers monthly and bi-monthly, ordinary and intensive (summer) course of the Italian language. The courses are divided into modules.

  3 What are the expected levels?
There are six levels: A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2, according to the parameters of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.
Levels A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2 are active throughout the year if there is an adequate number of students (at least 5).

 

 

  4 What is the programme of the italian language courses?
The lessons are divided into modules.

 

 

  5 What is the total number of students in each class?
The classes are composed by a number of about 12/15 students.

 

 

  6 When  do classes take place?
Classes are held in the morning from Monday to Friday, but some courses also have some classes in the afternoon (B1 - B2 - C1) from 13.15 to 14.45.

 

 

  7 Should you take a test to determine your level?
Student will take an entry test on the first day of the course. They are then allocated to the appropriate class, based on their knowledge of the language.

 

 

  8 How much does the italian language course cost?
The entry fee is annual, then within the same year you pay only once. It should be paid in advance and is not refundable.

  9 What should I do to enroll in Italian language courses?
Registration for courses is generally carried out at least one month before the beginning of the course. If you need a visa, you must perform it at least three months in advance.
To register for Ordinary Courses of Italian Language and Culture, students must send by post, fax or email the following documents:

 

  1. Application form duly filled in (downloadable from www.unsitrada. at  the following page: “Enrolment  and Payment”)
  2. A photocopy of an identity document
  3. receipt of payment of the enrollment fee.

 10 Is it possible to pay on the first day of the course?
Yes, it is possible to pay directly to the Secretary for Foreign Students.

 

 

 

 11 Where should I go on the first day of the course?

The first day of the courses, at 9:00 in the University for Foreigners of Reggio Calabria, you will take the ENTRY TEST.
The test is used to settle you in the most appropriate level related to your competence in Italian language.

 

It is advisable to arrive almost at a quarter to nine to do or complete your registration. To make payments of fees, you can go to the Secretary for Foreign Students  for taking a postal order to pay it at the post office or you can go to a bank to do a bank transfer.

 

The following day, at 9:00 am, there will be a meeting where you will be notified at what level you have been assigned and you will receive a “Welcome Package”, including useful information.

 

 In every class there are about 12/15 students.

 

 

 12 How late can I arrive from the beginning of the courses?

For the course A1 is a delay period of up to two days allowed from the start date.

 

For other courses (A2 - B1 - B2 - C1) a delay period of up to 4 days is allowed from the start date.

 

If you do not respect this time limit, you will not be allowed to attend the course.

 

 

 

 13 What certificate is released at the end of the course?
At the end of each course the student takes a final exam.  It gets access to the next level. It is issued, free of charge, an official level certificate, with the evaluation obtained, expressed out of thirty. To pass the exam you must have in every module a minimum of 18/30.

 

 

 14 How can I obtain a permit of stay?

 15 What are the essential documents prior to departure?
  1. Personal identity document or passport;
  2. Visa (if required). Please, enquire about the duration of your visa (if required). Remember that if you intend to stay and study for more than 3 months a type D visa is required, while type C allows you to remain in Italy for up to 3 months;
  3. Bring your Health Insurance.

 

  1. If you are a -European Union student, but non resident in Italy, you must ask your Health Care Service to issue the European Health Insurance Card for you, which allows you to receive the medical care by the Italian public service, as an Italian citizen.
  1. If you live in a country outside the EC:
  1. If your country government has agreements with the Italian government, take a copy of the agreement into the Italian Consulate or Embassy in your country and show it to the ASL Office in Reggio Calabria (Local Health Service- Via Pian d'Ovile 11 - Reggio Calabria);
    1. If your country government does not have agreements with the Italian government, you can:
      1. if you have no income in the previous year, in Italy and abroad, you may pay a contribution for voluntary registration to our National Health Service. This contribution is valid for the calendar year, it is not divisible and can not have retroactive effect. To enroll you must present your receipt of payment and residence permit;
      2. If you are a student worker registration is free until the employment contract is valid.

 16 How can I find an accommodation?
  It is possible to find accommodation through some agencies in agreement with the University for Foreigners.  17 Where can I go to eat?
When we will give you a Welcome Package, inside you will also receive a student card that you can use in restaurants, pizzerias, etc.. for having a discount.

 

 

 18 What can I do in my free time?

The University organizes educational tours of the city and of the most characteristic places of Calabria and Sicily, then you will be informed of such travel by CE.S.A.S.S. during your stay.

 19 How can I reach Reggio Calabria?

It is possible to reach Reggio Calabria by air.


The airports are:

-    International Airport of Catania “Fontanarossa".
