 1 Where is the University for Foreigners of Reggio Calabria?
The University for Foreigners “Dante Alighieri” of Reggio Calabria is located in the city centre at Via del Torrione, 95, behind the Municipal Theatre “Francesco Cilea”.   2 What kind of courses of Italian languages does the University offer?
The University for Foreigners offers the Italian language courses depending in which level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 according to the parameters of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe).

 

 

  3 What are the programs of the Italian Language Courses?
The programme of each courses are based in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.

 

 

  4 What is the total number of students in each classes?
The classes are composed by a number of about 15 students.

 

 

  5 How should I enrol for a course?
We advise for all the students who would like to sign up for our courses to enrol themselves in advance (one (1) month earlier before the classes start) and there is no deadline. For those who will be needing a visa, it is recommended to apply three (3) months earlier.Or you can send your registration via posta, fax or e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots.   6 What are we going to do on the first day of school?
On the first day, we have the entrance test at 9.00 am. The test will determine the student’s most suitable level. We advise the students to come 30 minutes earlier before the exam to be able to fill up and complete their enrolment at the Students Foreigner Secretariat and at CESASS. The next day, at 9.00 am, we will be having a Welcome Ceremony with all the staff (teachers and CESASS) where during the ceremony a complete information about the educational and extra activities and other services that CESASS offers.

 

 

  7 When are the lessons?
The lessons are in the morning, from Mondays to Fridays, generally from 9.00 am to 2.45 pm (A1 and A2 finishes the lesson at 12.30). The specific daily activity for every level will be detailed at the start of every courses.

 

 

  8 Should you take a test to determine your level?

Student will take an entrance test on the first day of the course and then they are allocated to the appropriate class, based on their knowledge of the language.


For those who already have a certificate given by our University or from other Institution (for example those who have a certificate of PLIDA) is exempted to do the entrance exam.

 

 

 

  9 How late can I arrive from the beginning of the courses?

 It is possible to be inserted at anytime of the course except for the beginner level A1 for which it is allowed only maximum of 3 days late from the first day. However, to be able to sustain the final exam it is necessary to attend at least 80% of the the hours required.

 

 

 10 What certificate is released at the end of the course?
Upon reaching the required credits for each level, a certificate will be given to very student. At the end of each course of the C1 and C2 , we will release a Diploma.

 

 

 

 11 How much does the Italian language course costs?

The Italian Language Courses have the same price for everyone which becomes lesser in each month of enrolment. For example:

 

The first month is 270€, the second month is 215€, the third and following months are 160€. The only exception are the months of July and August which costs 325€, the second month is 215€ and the third and following months are 160€.

 

If the student has a Scholarship or is an Erasmus Student he has to pay only the The Ce.s.a.s.s.' fee that is obligatory as well. It costs 20€ for the first month, 15€ for the second, 10€ for the third and following months. The only exception are the months of July and August which costs 25€ for the first month, 15€ for the second month, 10€ for the third and following months.

 

It is also possible to enrol for a lesser time:

 

1 week 110€

 

2 weeks 160€ (Winter, Autumn and Spring)
2 weeks 190€ (July and August)

 

 

 

 

 12 How can I obtain an Italian visa? (for students who is not from EU)?

The student must go to the Italian Embassy or Consulate for the visa. Ask for a “Student Visa”, you must submit a letter of acceptance (invitation) letter issued by the Student Secretariat This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of this University, after submitting the required documents for the enrolment to the chosen course. To obtain the acceptance letter (invitation) the student must pay a non-refundable deposit of 100€; therefore, we advice you to contact the Italian Embassy about the releasing time of the visa by submitting this letter of acceptance (invitation).

 

If the student obtains a tourist visa (usually three months), he can submit the documents required for registration at the Student Secretariat when he arrives in Reggio Calabria. To find out what documents you need for a residence permit, please contact the Foreign Students Secretariat.

 13 BEFORE DEPARTURE: What are the essential documents prior todeparture?
  • Identity Card & Passport, Visa (if required)
  • Inform about the duration of the visa. Be reminded that to be able to stay to study for 3 months it is needed to ask for a “TYPED” visa, while the type C visa will only consent you to stay in Italy for a maximum of 3 months;
  • Bring the health insurance.

If you are a European Union student and not resident in Italy, it is necessary to ask for your healthcare provider to release a European Health Card, which allow you to receive the public health services of the Italian Public Service as an Italian citizen. If you are a citizen of a NON- EU country: If your country has agreements with the Italian Government send a copy of the agreements to the Embassy or the Italian Consulate and present it to Reggio Calabria at ASL (Local Health Center - Via Pian d'Ovile 11 - Reggio Calabria).

If your country has not an agreement with the Italian Government you can:

  • In the absence of income in the previous year, in Italy and abroad, you can pay the contribution for voluntary registration with the National Health Service. The registration and residence permit must be submitted for registration.
  • If you are a student, student registration is free until the employment contract is valid.

 14 Where can I find an accommodation?

 15 Where can I go to eat?
The Ce.S.A.S.S., for regular students with monthly payments fee, will provide a Student Card which will allow you to enjoy discounts and discounts for eating at discounted premises at discounted rates.

 

 

 16 What can I do in my free time?
The Ce.S.A.S.S., together with the University Teachers, organizes a trip every month in the most characteristic places of Reggio Calabria.
