(Certificate of Competence in Italian Language)

The PLIDA Certificate is a certificate issued by the Dante Alighieri Society on the basis of an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It certifies the competence of Italian as a foreign language on a scale of six levels, which represent  the same stages of the learning of the language. The six levels of PLIDA go from A1 to C2 in progression of difficulty, and correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference of the Council of Europe (QCE).

The Certificate of Proficiency in Italian Language is one of the  four ones officially recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic under the Convention no. 1903 of the 04.11.1993. PLIDA also operates under an agreement with  "La Sapienza" in Rome (29.6.2004) issuing a scientific approval of the Certification.
In addition, PLIDA is also recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy (Decree 18.10.2002) and the Ministry of University and Research as the title for university enrollment of foreign students on concessional terms (protocol no.1906 of the  9.10.2006).

Exams are held at the certifiers centres authorized by the Headquarters, including the University for Foreigners Dante Alighieri in Reggio Calabria.

The examination for each level is divided into four phases. The division aims at assessing the language skills according to the four basic skills: listening, reading, writing, speaking. In the first two levels, some activities in the tests are driven by images or grids: their purpose is to help the candidate in the production and comprehension.

The listening test is made with the help of actors in the first level (elementary) and is an extract of spontaneous speech, in varying degrees of complexity, for the other levels. For each skill are proposed two tests (three in C2 level): the total duration of the examination is from a minimum of  about 100 minutes for the level A1 to a maximum of about 190 minutes for the C2 level.
